High Tide Brings Big Waves to South Shore, Flood Watch

High tide came and went Friday afternoon, bringing big waves and lots of foam along Central Ave in Scituate.

Darlene Oliveira and her husband are in town for their annual trip to Scituate and some bad weather wasn’t holding them back.

“We do this every year," she said. "Come hell or high water, we’re going.”

And there was some high water, but when high tide rolled out, there was just some minor flooding to deal with.

In the typical trouble spots like the Humarock section of Scituate, Lisa Caisse knows this is nothing after a series of storms over the years has left her property battered.

In the Sand Hills area of town, another flood prone section when the waves are riled up, necn meteorologist Michael Page took video of some minor flooding on Oceanside Drive.

In nearby Marshfield, DPW crews spent part of the day shoring up access points to the beach to try to keep water from causing any flooding issues with the turbulent forecast over the next few days.

And elsewhere on the South Shore, in Plymouth Harbor, about 60 boats were hauled onto dry land because of the weather and any potential impact from Hurricane Joaquin.

Some hoping the boating season could have been a little bit longer.

Scituate Police say they are keeping an eye on the forecast and the hurricane, and while things are looking better for New England, they’re still hoping people have tied up their boats and they’re recommending people have an evacuation plan in place just in case, especially with another winter approaching.
