South Shore Plaza Shooting Suspect Held on $75,000 Bail

Michael Spence pleaded not guilty to charges in connection with shooting inside Macy's

The suspect in a shooting at a suburban Boston mall that sent shoppers fleeing in panic has been held on $75,000 bail.

The Patriot Ledger reports that Michael Spence Jr. pleaded not guilty Monday to charges including discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building and carrying a firearm without a license in connection with the gunfire Friday at the South Shore Plaza in Braintree.

No one was hurt in the shooting in the shoe section of Macy's that police say was sparked by a chance encounter between members of rival gangs. The 24-year-old Spence was arrested Saturday.

Spence's attorney questioned the evidence, saying investigators found no gunshot residue on Spence, no fingerprints tying him to the gun, and no witnesses who saw him holding or firing the weapon.
