Southwick, Massachusetts, Mother Credited With Rescuing Baby From House Fire

The fast-moving fire destroyed the multi-family home

Firefighters say the mother of a baby boy trapped inside their burning Southwick, Massachusetts, home ran outside, broke a window and rescued the child.

The Republican reports (http://bit.ly/1vfaveY ) that Fire Chief Richard Anderson said the unidentified mother, father and baby are expected to be OK following the Wednesday night fire. The mother's legs were lacerated and all three suffered smoke inhalation.

The fast-moving fire destroyed the multi-family home.

Anderson said the parents left the baby in their basement apartment and were upstairs in another apartment when the fire started. They ran outside to rescue the baby because there was no internal access.

He said at least two other occupants escaped and several others may not have been home.
