St. George School to Retain Independent Investigator

The investigator will be agreed upon by both the Rhode Island school and an alumni/victim organization called “SGS for Healing”

The St. George’s School board of trustees announced Thursday that it will retain a third party investigator to oversee a “comprehensive investigation of sexual abuse at St. George’s School” in Rhode Island.

The investigator will be agreed upon by both the Rhode Island school and an alumni/victim organization called “SGS for Healing.”

“The Board is committed to a truly impartial investigation,” the board’s chair, Leslie Heaney, wrote in a joint statement with that group. “There is nothing more important to us than that the review be thorough and exhaustive, and that its findings are found to be reliable and credible by all parties, particularly the victims.”

“Today’s decision is a very important first step in what we hope will be a process of reconciliation and healing,” Anne Scott, class of 1980, wrote in the statement. “We look forward to the input of all alumni/victims on today’s developments and the new investigation.”
