Stamford Man Shot By Police Committed Suicide: Medical Examiner

State police have taken over the investigation.

A 25-year-old Stamford man who died after a police-involved shooting on Monday night committed suicide, according to the medical examiner.

Members of Stamford Police Department SWAT responded to 119 Wedgemere St. in Stamford around 7:45 p.m. on Monday to investigate a disturbance after receiving reports of a man with a gun threatening harm, according to Stamford Police.

After an hour-long standoff, two Stamford police officers shot Dylan Pape, a resident of the house, according to police.

The officers involved with the shooting were Lieutenant Christopher Baker, a 16-year veteran and Sergeant Steven Perrotta, a 12-year veteran, police said. 

After the police-involved shooting, more Stamford police officers and Emergency Medical Services arrived and gave Pape medical care, then EMS brought him to Stamford Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

State police detectives from Western District Major Crime responded to the scene around 12:30 a.m. on Tuesday, at the request of the Stamford Police Department and the Stamford State Attorney’s Office, and took over the investigation.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner conducted a post-mortem examination and determined Pape died of a gunshot wound to the abdomen and his death has been ruled a suicide.

Perrotta and Baker have been placed on modified duty, according to police.
