State Flag to Fly at Half-Staff for Trooper

An autopsy found that the death last week of 28-year-old Trooper Kyle Young of Monkton was an accident

Gov. Peter Shumlin has ordered the Vermont state flag to fly at half-staff in honor of a trooper who died after he collapsed at a National Guard firing range while trying out for the state police tactical team.

An autopsy found that the death last week of 28-year-old Trooper Kyle Young of Monkton was an accident, with the medical examiner saying it occurred during "strenuous physical activity in high environmental temperature."

Young collapsed at the Vermont National Guard's Ethan Allen Firing Range in Jericho.

A funeral was scheduled for Young on Wednesday afternoon in Watertown, New York, near his hometown of Brownville.
