State Leaders Step Into Market Basket Family Feud

Mass. Gov. Deval Patrick and NH Gov. Maggie Hassan say they met with both sides in Demoulas spat and that progress has been made

They've been at it now for more than a month, and Market Basket employees are still demanding the return of Arthur T. Demoulas - despite signs that the standoff might be coming to an end.

The latest development in this unprecedented battle involves Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick and New Hampshire Gov. Maggie Hassan.

They said they met this weekend with both sides in the Demoulas family feud, including cousins Arthur T. Demoulas and and Arthur S. Demoulas, the pair at the center of the dispute.

"The parties have made real progress on the terms of the sale and operating control of the company, and the governors are encouraged that a resolution may be within reach, a spokesperson with Gov. Patrick's office told NECN in a statement.

Arthur T. Demoulas was ousted as CEO of Market Basket in June when his cousin gained control of the company's board. Employees walked off the job last month, demanding his reinstatement, leaving stores and shelves empty.

Last week, the company warned warehouse workers to return to their jobs by Monday or face termination.
