State Police Take Driver Into Custody After 25-Mile Chase on I-95

State police took a driver into custody who led police on a pursuit for 25 miles from West Haven to Westport on Interstate 95 just after midnight on Sunday, state police said.

John Belbusti, 34, was taken into state police custody after the chase.

Troop G located a car involved in a pursuit with Troop I just minutes before. They tried to stop the vehicle, but the driver ignored the trooper's signal and kept going, state police said.

The pursuit started in West Haven and spanned south for 25 miles into Westport.

State police deployed "stop sticks" three times, but the motorist continued driving on the rims, according to state police.

The vehicle was eventually "boxed in" and state police stopped the driver without any accidents or injuries, state police said.

State police took Belbusti into custody without incident.

"This incident was successful due to the teamwork and response of several CSP units, DOT camera operators and CSP Supervisors. Coordinating a safe conclusion like this is our priority. Great job by all those involved," State Police Troop G officials said on Facebook
