Car Crashes Down on Stoughton Man While He's Working on It

A man was pinned under a car in Stoughton, Massachusetts today, according to police.

Avelino Fernandes, 67, was working on his personal vehicle at 1961 Washington St. when it fell on top of him.

Police say the car was sitting on some kind of blocks and when they shifted, the vehicle came crashing down on his chest.

Fernandes was trapped underneath the vehicle until the fire department arrived and used an airbag lift system to get the vehicle off him.

Bill Murphy is a neighbor who heard the commotion.

"I heard yelling. Not so much screaming, but yelling and that's what made me start to walk to the back to the property to see what was going on," Murphy said. "He's always working in his garage. I don't know so much as working on cars, but working on his landscape equipment."

Fernandes was taken to a hospital and then airlifted to another hospital.

The extent of the Fernandes's injuries are unknown at this time.

Police are investigating the incident.
