Student Admits to Setting Fire in Locker Room

Burlington Police said Thursday morning they won't identify the student because of the person's age

Police say a student has admitted setting a fire in the girls' locker room at Burlington High School in Vermont that sent plumes of smoke throughout the building.

Burlington Police said Thursday morning they won't identify the student because of the person's age. They say the investigation is closed.

Firefighters responded to the fire just after 10:30 a.m. Tuesday and put out the blaze after a staff member had partially extinguished the flames with a fire extinguisher.

Nobody was hurt.

Fire Marshal Barry Simays says the fire extended from the second floor into the gymnasium on the school's third level. Firefighters worked for an hour to clear the building of smoke.

The fire caused about $10,000 worth of damage, including cleanup.
