Boston Police arrested a juvenile Monday morning at his school in Dorchester after administrators found an unloaded gun in the boy's locker.

Police said the student was taken into custody at the William Monroe Trotter School on Humboldt Avenue at 8:23 a.m.

In a recorded message, Principal Mairead Nolan let the school community know of the incident and said that the student would be disciplined.

"The student will be disciplined through the Boston Public Schools' code of conduct, in addition to whatever actions law enforcement authorities take. I want to ensure you that the safety of our students and staff is always a top priority at BPS, and we followed all the appropriate steps to ensure that no one in our school community was in any danger," Nolan said.

The student, who has not been identified, is being charged with unlawful possession of a firearm on school property.
