Stunning End to Thanksgiving Rivalry Game in Lynn, Massachusetts

It was a wild ending that had fans on both sides thinking their team was winning in a stunning Thanksgiving rivalry between Lynn English and Lynn Classical.

With seconds left in the high school football game, English scored and fans rushed the field. They thought the game was over, but it was not.

Before the clock ran out, a penalty was called giving Classical time for one more play and a chance to come back.

"I just thought I had to score. I saw the end zone," senior running back for Classical Marcus Rivera said. "I couldn’t believe it. I thought it was like a dream. I was so excited."

It was the final game of Rivera’s high school career and it ended with an 83 yard touchdown. Final score 21-20.

Classical Coach Tim Phelps said it was a great display of teamwork, but he’s also giving credit to his oldest son who helped come up with the play.

"I was kind of shocked my dad used it," Samuel Phelps said.

His dad is still shocked too, but it is one they will be talking about for many Thanksgivings to come and his children are already working on plays for next year.

"I don’t know if we will repeat that play, but hopefully we will repeat a win," Coach Phelps said.
