Sun-Filled and Bright Weekend

The pattern that has brought us sun-filled & unseasonably warm temperatures over the last week- jet-setting some spots in New England to the warmest October on record (so far), continues this weekend. After a cool and clear start to our Saturday, temperatures rebound by the afternoon into the low 70s for southern New England, northern New England near 70.

With this record-warmth, this has put a damper on the fall foliage this year, or at least muted the colors and adjusted the peak timing, especially in northern New England towns where temperatures are running at least 6 to 8 degrees above normal. It’s still a picture perfect day for any of your outdoor plans, whether it’s leaf peeping or cheering on the rowers for the Head of the Charles Regatta. Light wind and plenty of sunshine for both race days is great for rowers and for the spectators.

Tonight, a few more clouds slide in, but, there’s still enough time and space to look up in the night sky to catch a glimpse of the Orionid Meteor Shower if you were not able to see any of the shooting stars last night. Overnight lows slip back into the 50s south, 40s north. Sunday brings a few more clouds, but the 70s stick around. Heading to the much-anticipated Falcons vs. Patriots game Sunday night? By kickoff, temperatures expected near 60, with a light wind. By the end of the game, temperatures likely slip into the 50s under mostly clear skies.

The reason for the quiet and warm weather this weekend is a dome of high pressure, which slips off the southeast coast of New England for Monday. It’s a warm start to the work week as humidity and more clouds creep back in. A cold front developing over the Midwest this weekend, will approach western New England by early Tuesday, bringing much-needed rainfall. Compared to last week’s warmth and sunshine, this upcoming work week, the transition to wet and cool conditions slide in by midweek. The cold front takes it’s time traversing from west to east and we’ll likely see rain showers from Tuesday through late Thursday. The heaviest rain likely between Wednesday and Thursday. Some spots could see at least 2” of rainfall through Thursday night, with locally higher amounts closest to the coastline.

A cooler airmass settles in by late week, and it looks like we return to near seasonable temperatures by Halloween. Stay tuned for the latest updates to your forecast on the air, online and on-the-go with the NBC Boston / necn app.
