Suspect Arraigned in Boston Church Break-In, Burglary

Police say Eric Swanson, 33, of Boston, is charged with larceny over $250.00, vandalism and breaking and entering at nighttime

A man accused of breaking into a church and stealing items has been arrested and arraigned in court.

Eric Swanson, 33, of Bedford, is charged with larceny over $250, vandalism and breaking and entering at nighttime. He was arraigned Monday in Boston Municipal Court.

The Shrine of St. Anthony’s security cameras captured the break-in happening around 6 a.m. Friday.

The suspect seen in the surveillance footage was wearing a suit, red tie and baseball cap.

Police on Sunday spotted Swanson, who was wearing the same clothing as the man from the surveillance video. He was arrested and charged in connection with the incident.

According to the Boston Herald, he allegedly stole a sound system, censor, and electronic giving station.

The Franciscans of St. Anthony shrine tell the paper that they are ready to forgive him and say the theft and vandalism could have been a call for help.

The suspect was also arraigned on drug possession charges dating back to July 26. Bail was set at $3,500.

Swanson is due back in court Dec. 12. He is being represented by Patrick Colvario.
