Suspect Arrested in Death of Man Who Drowned in Bridgeport Bar Fight

Police have arrested a man in the homicide of another man who drowned after a fight behind a bar last summer in Bridgeport, near Fairfield.

Richard "Ricky D" de Carvalho, 33, is facing multiple charges including criminally negligent homicide and assault in the death of  Wayne Bentley, 42, of West Haven.

Bentley was one of two people who fell in Ash Creek behind Chubby's Bar & Grill after a fight behind the bar just after 1 a.m. on Aug. 1, 2015. 

The other person who was involved in the fight, identified as de Carvalho, fled the scene.

Bridgeport and Fairfield police responded to the fight and drowning behind the 3488 Fairfield Avenue restaurant.

An autopsy was done and the cause of Bentley's death was ruled blunt force trauma of the head and neck.

De Carvalho was called into the Bridgeport police headquarters and came in without incident. Police charged de Carvalho with criminally negligent homicide, third-degree assault and second-degree breach of peace. 

His bond was set at $500,000.
