The Rhode Island Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is asking for the public's help in identifying a person they say threw a dog from a moving car.
According to necn affiliate WJAR, a witness to the incident told police a box was thrown from an SUV window in the area of Woodville Alton Road in Hopkinton, on June 20.
The witness found the injured pit bull by the box.
The dog, which is 3 or 4-years-old, was in poor condition and had scars consistent with "some form of dog fighting." It was taken to a clinic for treatment.
The suspect drove away in a black SUV with Illinois plates.
A $1,000 reward is being offered for information leading to an arrest.
