Suspect With Butcher Knife Tried Tying Up Woman During Invasion

A 53-year-old resident in New Haven told police a intruder entered her first floor apartment brandishing a butcher knife.

On Jan. 13, a "petite" man holding a butcher knife and wearing a beige coat entered the woman's bedroom, she told police. She said that the man ordered her to the bed and tried tying her hands behind her back.

The suspect abruptly ran out of the room during the process and left the knife. The victim grabbed the knife and found an officer on the corner of Hazel Street and Newhall Street, police said.

Police found the victim's 64-year-old roommate laying on the floor disoriented and suffering from a contusion. She told police she had been assaulted. The 64-year-old victim was taken to Yale-New Haven for non-life threatening injuries.

The suspect was gone before police arrived to the apartment and is still at large.
