Crash killed man and critically injured woman in New Haven, Conn.

Police in New Haven, Connecticut, say they have arrested a drunk driver responsible for a fatal accident early Sunday morning.

Police were called to Long Wharf Drive between the Canal Dock and the I-95 Northbound on-ramp at 12:18 a.m. Sunday morning.

Initially, police believed it was an accident involving a single car that struck the barrier. A male passenger in that car was ejected. That passenger, along with a female passenger were all rushed to Yale-New Haven hospital.

The ejected passenger, Olvin Cruz, of Adeline St. in New Haven, was pronounced dead at the hospital at 12:44 a.m.

The female passenger underwent surgery and was listed in critical condition.

The driver was conscious and alert at the scene and suffered non-life threatening injuries. He told police that he was cut off by another vehicle while trying to enter the highway.

While police were investigating, witnesses came forward and reported that a white Toyota Rav 4 had been involved and was parked on Church Street South near Union Ave.

Police located that vehicle parked on the street with the operator still inside. The driver, whose identity is unknown at this time, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence.
