Suspected Gunman Arrested in Prior Boston Police Shooting

The shootout with Boston Police that left a suspect dead and critically injured an officer is apparently not the first violent run-in the alleged gunman had with authorities.

Forty-one-year-old Angelo West was killed Friday after police say he shot officer John Moynihan in the face during a traffic stop in the city's Roxbury neighborhood.

Back in 2001, West was arrested for another police shooting.

Police were trying to arrest West when he pulled a gun on two Massachusetts State Police troopers and two Boston Police officers, firing a shot but not hitting anyone.

West was charged with armed assault with intent to murder for that incident.

Moynihan remains in critical condition at Boston Medical Center. The 34-year-old Iraq War veteran has been with the department since 2008. Last year, he received the Nation's top Cops Award from President Barack Obama for his role in the manhunt following the Boston Marathon bombings after he helped rescue MBTA officer Dic Donohue, who was shot, allegedly by the accused bombers.
