Syrian-American Who Confronted Jeb Bush Speaking at University of Rhode Island

A Syrian-American activist who gained notoriety after confronting Jeb Bush at a recent campaign stop is speaking at the University of Rhode Island later this month

Nora Barré will talk about the Syrian civil war during a Nov. 18 speech that's part of the university's International Education Week.

Last month, the 34-year-old former Cranston resident spoke to Bush during a campaign stop in New Hampshire.

Barré tearfully told Bush, who is seeking the Republican nomination for president, how she and her family fled the troubled country and asked him what he would be about the refugee crisis if elected.

Bush promised to provide support to refugee and gave her a hug. The encounter went viral and garnered national attention.

The 4:30 p.m. talk is free and open to the public.
