A jury has convicted an 18-year-old man of grossly negligent operation in a car crash that killed a 16-year-old passenger in Vermont in 2013.

Tristan Cameron was 17 and newly licensed when the car collided with a farm truck on a curve in the road. Cameron's friend, Tyler Rheaume of Sheldon, died.

The St. Albans Messenger reports (http://bit.ly/1F2q6r3) the defense had argued the travel lane was only 15 feet wide at the time of the accident, with the truck taking up more than 8 feet. A defense expert testified that drivers tended to drive toward the center on the road, creating a "shared center."

    Cameron awaits sentencing.
