Teen Sentenced to 26 Years for Role in Fellow Teen's Murder

An 18-year-old man has been sentenced to serve 26 years in prison for his role in the killing of a high school football player in Providence.

Attorney General Peter F. Kilmartin announced Wednesday that Robert Winston was sentenced to 30 years with 26 years to serve in Superior Court. Winston, of Providence, pleaded guilty to assault and conspiracy.

Seventeen-year-old George Holland was visiting his girlfriend's house Feb. 4, 2014, when he was shot through the window. Prosecutors say the intended targets were his girlfriend's brothers.

Holland was a Central High School football player.

A 19-year-old Pawtucket man, Ashner Alexis, was found guilty of first-degree murder in the fatal shooting.

Winston's attorney, John J. Canham Jr., says his client was horrified by the killing and cooperated with authorities.
