Teen Suffers Third-Degree Burns

A 13-year-old boy was badly burned in a flash fire in Attleborough, Massachusetts.

Fire officials confirm to necn that the teen was taken from the scene on Starkey Avenue to Hasboro Children's Hospital with third-degree burns.

Two boys were throwing objects at power lines above train tracks, causing a high-tension-electrical-arc of 25,000, Attleborough Fire told necn affiliate WJAR.

The other teen wasn't injured.

The incident took place around 5 p.m. on Friday and caused trains to stop in their tracks.

A passenger, who was traveling from Boston to Providence, told WJAR she had been stuck on a train for nearly three hours. She said the train began moving again just after 8 p.m.

"First we were told an Amtrak train had broken down, then we were told there were multiple switch problems," the woman said.

Mac Daniel, manager of Public Relations and Communications for Keolis Commuter Services, said the accident resulted in a switch malfunction, which caused delays for the MBTA and Amtrak.

He also said technicians were on the scene.
