The Art…of Toothpicks?

A new exhibition at the Fuller Craft Museum in Brockton, MA, is putting a unique kind of art in the spotlight.

Architectural icons including the Eiffel Tower, St. Patrick's Cathedral, and Stonehenge are featured in "Toothpick World: From Sliver to Skyline," an exhibition highlighting the work of Stan Munro.

"Stan is a New York-based artist who has been working for many years creating sculptures primarily of toothpicks and Elmer's glue," said Beth McLaughlin, chief curator.

The exhibit has some hometown favorites like the John Hancock Building, Trinity Church, and Fenway Park, complete with fans and the famous Coca Cola sign. The International Space Station hangs from the ceiling, and nearby, you'll find the Empire State Building looming large.

The exhibit, which opened December 19, is already a huge hit for the museum.

"It's so gratifying to see the visitors come in and spend 15-20 minutes looking at one piece and imagining the patience and dedication that it took for an artist to spend on creating such a masterpiece," McLaughlin said.

"Toothpick World" is on display until March 27. If you want to try building your own wooden creation, the Fuller Craft Museum is holding a Build and Play Family Day this weekend. On Saturday, Jan. 17, there will be story time, art making, and demonstrations. The fun begins at 10 a.m. You can find more information here.
