“The Nutcracker” Returns to Boston

The holiday classic has been part of the Boston Ballet’s repertoire since 1963

A holiday tradition has returned to the stage. Friday is opening night for Boston Ballet's "The Nutcracker" at the Boston Opera House.

Even people who don’t know ballet know the famous show. The holiday classic has been part of the Boston Ballet’s repertoire since 1963.

Artistic Director Mikko Nissinen said, “You know, the company’s ready. We have a huge run in front of us. Forty-three shows all the way to New Year’s Eve.”

This year’s production includes the full company of 63 dancers and over 250 Boston Ballet School students.

Eleven different casts will perform during the show’s run, giving different dancers the chance to shine in some of the ballet’s leading roles.
