Connecticut State Police have reopened the southbound side of Interstate 95 in New Haven after a fatal accident that snarled the morning commute for hours.

The southbound lanes were opened at about 11 a.m. Wednesday, nearly six hours after two tractor-trailers and another vehicle collided near Exit 46.

Troopers say one person was pronounced dead at the scene and another was taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital with serious injuries. The victims' names haven't been released.

The closure of all the southbound lanes backed up traffic for miles and jammed local roads.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
