Tractor Trailer Runs Off Road, Spilling 90,000 Pounds of Lumber

It appears that the driver fell asleep

A tractor trailer loaded with 90,000 pounds of lumber ran off Interstate 95 in Sidney, Maine, on Wednesday morning, making a mess of traffic.

The accident occurred around 6 a.m. in the northbound lane.

The driver, John Rancourt, 32, of Jay, is believed to have fallen asleep. He was not injured in the crash.

Nearly all of the wood in the tractor trailer broke loose from the trailer after it slammed into the rock ledge. Both the truck and the trailer were demolished.

The travel lane was shut down for several hours while the wood was recovered and the wreck removed. The lane reopened around noon.
