The trial is starting for a former Rutland, Vermont, city attorney accused in a fatal hit-and-run crash in 2013.

Christopher Sullivan pleaded not guilty to leaving the scene of the crash and driving under influence with death resulting. The crash killed 71-year-old Jane Outslay.

The Rutland Herald reports
a jury was picked Monday and opening statements were scheduled Tuesday.

Police said Outslay, of Mendon, was crossing Strongs Avenue in downtown Rutland the night of April 10, 2013, when she was struck and killed by a vehicle that continued south. The 54-year-old Sullivan later identified himself as the driver.
