Trial for Nantucket Man Accused of Severe Sexual Assaults Moved

A Nantucket man accused of entering the homes of women, tying them up and sexually assaulting them will be tried in Barnstable.

The Cape Cod Times reports a Nantucket judge ruled Thursday that residents in Barnstable would be less likely to remember compromising details of the case or know the women David Matterson is accused of assaulting.

Prosecutors say Matterson entered their homes with a knife and raped them. A fourth was able to fight him off.

Police say DNA found at some of the crime scenes matched a soup container Matterson had thrown away at a restaurant.

His attorney, Stephen Hrones, has said publicity of the case could taint the jury, including coverage of Matterson's statements to police that have since been suppressed.

Hrones has filed a motion to dismiss.
