Trial to Begin for Man Charged With Attempted Murder

Kerry Joseph is facing attempted murder charges and other offenses, in the shooting of Okiemute Omatie.

Police say the trial for a Dover, New Hampshire, man accused of shooting a man in the chest in Rochester is set to begin.

Foster's Daily Democrat reports 28-year-old Kerry Joseph is facing attempted murder charges and other offenses, in the shooting of Okiemute Omatie.

Police say Joseph shot Omatie last year on Lafayette Street. Omatie suffered injuries considered life-threatening and was taken to Maine Medical Center in Portland.

Joseph was arrested in August 2014 after a search involving Rochester police and the U.S Marshals Joint Fugitive Task Force.

He is charged with first-degree assault and criminal threatening against Omatie.

Joseph's attorney says that the charges should be dismissed because his right to a speedy trial was violated. He says Joseph has been incarcerated for 11 months.
