Trooper, Volunteer Firefighter Deliver Baby as Neighbors Cheer

Police, fire arrive with minutes to spare

A volunteer firefighter and a New Hampshire state trooper were among the first to welcome Grantham, New Hampshire's newest resident Friday evening when they helped deliver a baby girl at her parents' home.

Local police and fire officials were alerted at 6:32 p.m. that expectant mother Joana Murad was in labor and progressing quickly.

Jeremy LaBombard, a volunteer firefighter, and State Trooper Michael McLaughlin, arrived just in time as a "beautiful, healthy" baby girl arrived safe and sound just eight minutes later.

LaBombard and McLaughlin coached Murad and helped father Rodwell Mabaera cut the cord, state police said.

"There were many smiles and a few cheers in the neighborhood as friends and neighbors celebrated a happy beginning!" state police said.
