Trumbull Police Continue to Investigate Reported Armed Sexual Assault

A 43-year-old Trumbull woman told police a man carrying a handgun came into her home and sexually assaulted her.

The incident happened at about 5 a.m. Tuesday at the woman's Old Town Road home, according to Trumbull Deputy Police Chief Thomas Savarese.

“It was reported that the suspect had a handgun,” Savarese said.

No suspect has been identified at this time.

A woman who lives on the same street as the victim and asked NBC Connecticut to not share her identity said, "I'm really concerned because like I told you, I have a daughter. I'm really scared about it."

She said this is the first she's heard of a serious crime like this happening in her neighborhood since she moved to Trumbull two years ago.

“Our detective bureau is actively investigating at this time,” Savarese said. "We are asking residents to be aware of their surroundings and to call the police department if they observe any suspicious activity, suspicious vehicles, and suspicious cars in the area.”

The deputy chief is also reminding residents to make sure they lock the doors to their homes.

"Make sure everything is closed and before I leave the house for something I need to go around and check,” the neighbor said.

Police have not yet released a suspect description. Detectives are reviewing security camera video from nearby businesses.

Trumbull police are investigating the complaint and anyone who observes any suspicious activity in the area to call 203-261-3665 or dial 911 in an emergency.
