Three Shootings in New London Connected: Police

New London police are investigating after three people were shot off of Colman Street in  New London just before midnight on Tuesday night and they believe the shootings are connected.

New London police received a 911 call reporting shots fired at Nowhere Café in the city around 11:45 p.m. Tuesday, but the owner of  Nowhere Café said the shooting actually happened in a shared parking lot behind her building.

“We were just in here dancing, having a good time, and the customers heard gunshots and the next thing you know, people just scattered all over the place,” Diane Holmgren, owner of Nowhere Café, said.

Police found the first victim in the parking lot next to Aaron's Rent to Own. The person had been shot in the upper left thigh and an ambulance transported the victim to Lawrence & Memorial Hospital to be treated.

A second gunshot victim was shot in the chest. The victim was brought to Lawrence & Memorial Hospital and transferred to Yale-New Haven Hospital, police said.

A third victim showed up at the hospital with gunshot wounds in his back and abdominal area. He was also transferred to Yale-New Haven Hospital, police said.

Police have not released the names of the victims and Holmgren said she does not think the people involved were customers.

It's not clear what led up to the shootings and New London Police Department's Uniform Patrol and Investigative Divisions are investigating the shootings.

Police ask anyone who witnessed the shootings or has information to call the department at 860-442-444 or 860-447-1481.
