The University of Southern Maine will house a new international high school next year.

The new school is part of an effort to grow revenue and provide English-speaking foreign students with up to two years of college credit while they complete high school. The Portland Press Herald reports the University of Maine System trustees authorized the school on Monday.

Board Chairman Sam Collins says the high school is a way to bring diversity to the University of Southern Maine. The school is tentatively called International Early College at USM and it would initially enroll 50 students. The students would be housed in their own dorm on the university's Gorham campus.
