Vermont Man Cited in Wisconsin Man's Overdose Death

Police say 30-year-old Kyle Bates, of Stoughton, Wisconsin, was found dead at the Duxbury Campground on Sept. 17

A Vermont man has been cited after state police say he gave narcotics to a Wisconsin man who later died of an overdose.

Police say 30-year-old Kyle Bates, of Stoughton, Wisconsin, was found dead at the Duxbury Campground on Sept. 17. He had been staying at the campground while assigned to a work site in Vermont.

Police say an autopsy revealed he died from intoxication due to narcotics and prescription drugs. They say an investigation showed 35-year-old Martin Berno, of Duxbury, supplied the drugs shortly before Bates died.

Berno is due in court next month to answer to a charge of selling or dispensing a regulated drug with death resulting. It wasn't immediately known if he has an attorney and a listed number wasn't working.
