Essex Junction, Vermont School Lockdown Lifted

Officials say an Essex, Vermont, high school has been deemed safe after police said an armed person threatened to appear, prompting a lockdown there and at five other schools in the area.

The Chittenden Central Supervisory Union says that person was not in the building Wednesday.

The schools had been in lockdown for much of the day. Officials say students and staff are now allowed to leave their classroom to use the bathroom but are required to stay in the building as police search the grounds.

The schools involved are Hiawatha Elementary, Summit Street School, Thomas Fleming School, Albert D. Lawton School (ADL), Essex High School and the Center for Technology.
