Vermont Woman Charged in Fatal I-89 Crash Arrested

Police said 23-year-old Karri Benoir intended to kill herself when she crossed the median and hit an oncoming vehicle in Richmond on July 30

A Vermont woman charged in a fatal crash on Interstate 89 is back in jail after prosecutors say she violated her release conditions.

Police said 23-year-old Karri Benoir intended to kill herself when she crossed the median and hit an oncoming vehicle in Richmond on July 30. The crash killed 30-year-old Brendon Cousino of Richmond. The Barre woman pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder.

The Burlington Free Press reports Benoir was released in August on 24-hour parental supervision. But prosecutors say they learned that Benoir's father never moved in with her and say her mother lived in the apartment until Oct. 22.

Police arrested her Monday and a judge ordered her held for lack of $100,000 bail.
