Very Wet Night Ahead

Showers and downpours are continuing to move through New England

Umbrellas and rain boots needed through this evening.

The same line of showers and downpours that moved through NYC and Bridgeport, CT earlier today and broke the daily record rainfall in both locations, will continue to slide northeast across southern New England and hug the coastline, sweeping the New Hampshire and Maine seacoast. With these heavier pockets of downpours, these will impact not only the evening commute, but will also bring a chance for some poor drainage flooding, which has prompted a Flood Watch from the Cape & the Islands to Downeast Maine. A few of these downpours could produce some embedded downpours and gusty winds, so downed trees and power lines are possible with the drenched soil and strong winds. Through Saturday morning, we could see rainfall totals spanning from 1” -2”.

Overnight, we finally see a break in the downpours spreading from southwest to northeast. Scattered showers are possible tomorrow morning, before another break slides in for the afternoon. So, this weekend will not be a washout by any means. In fact, we could see brief periods of sunshine into western New England, and with high dew points and humidity, temperatures will likely start off in near 60 tomorrow morning before reaching close to 70 by the late afternoon. This warm-up could spur up a few more downpours by dinner time, so if you’re outdoors, keep your eyes to the skies. Sunday brings two waves of cold fronts, the first arriving before dawn, the second late at night. A few more showers could pick up into northern New England between fronts Sunday afternoon, southern New England will likely scrape by with a spotty shower or two.

Sunday, high temperatures only reach into the lower 60s south, 50s north. Behind the second front late Sunday night, a few showers could change over to snow flurries for far northern VT & NH, especially into the higher elevations early Monday. An unseasonably cool and wet patterns sticks around for the next work week with highs into the upper 50s, but it looks like the rainy pattern will be out of here for Mother’s Day, next weekend.
