Wake Held for 7-Year-Old Who Drowned at Boston Beach

Kyzr Willis tragically died last week in what police are calling an accident

A wake was held Wednesday for a 7-year-old boy who drowned after wandering away from a Boston community center.

Kyzr Willis tragically died last week in what police are calling an accident. His body was found in the water off Carson Beach after he went missing from the Curley Community Center day camp at Carson Beach in South Boston.

Many of those who helped look for him gathered outside the center for a vigil Tuesday night.

Family, friends and neighbors celebrated Kyzr's life and launched balloons into the sky at exactly 7:09, when his body was found.

John Baker, his uncle, said, "We wanted to thank everybody that searched for him that gave up time. A lot of people didn't know my nephew yet they came out and looked for him."

The vigil came on the same day the Curley Center reopened its camp.

They have established new protocols that include more head-counts, as well as mandated life-preservers for campers in the water.

The wake was held at 3 p.m. at the Morning Star Baptist Church and funeral services are Thursday.
