Water Main Break in Charlestown, Mass. Impacts Traffic

The break is located on Old Rutherford Avenue. Route 99 has since reopened in both directions

A water main break in Charlestown, Massachusetts, impacted traffic near the Tobin Bridge for much of Tuesday.

The break happened at about 1 a.m. at the intersection of Old Rutherford Avenue and Arrow Street.

By 4 p.m., Boston Water and Sewer Commission crews have removed the damaged pipe and are in the process of replacing that section.

The area was shut down for some time while crews repaired the 16-inch main but Route 99 has since reopened in both directions.

BWSC said service is expected to be restored shortly to the small number of affected customers in the area.
