Watertown Residents Celebrate Life with 5K

With less than 24 hours until the Boston Marathon, another race with a special meaning is taking place in Watertown, Massachusetts.

Police chief Michael Lawn is proud of the Watertown Police Finish Strong 5K. Part of the route goes through where police had a shootout with the Boston Marathon Bombers in the days after the explosions.

"Three years ago we asked everyone to lock down and stay in their houses. A year later we asked everyone to come out of their houses," said Lawn. "A lot of people were scared that night and we are just trying to eliminate those fears and have people come back out in the community and enjoy the great community that it is."

For three years hundreds of participants run the course, proving that Watertown Strong is evident and showing appreciation to first responders.

"It was a tough day but we proved that we can get through anything with support," said 5K participant Sonja Paige.
