A Massachusetts Department of Transportation worker and two others were injured in a multiple-vehicle crash on Interstate 95 in Dedham, Massachusetts, on Monday.

The accident was reported just before noon on I-95 north near University Avenue.

Preliminary investigation by Massachusetts State Police said a MassDOT employee driving a 2016 Ford F150 vehicle had responded to a report of debris in the highway and had pulled into the left breakdown lane.

Two northbound vehicles that were behind the pickup slowed down, but a third vehicle that was behind them, a 2000 Chevrolet van, did not slow down in time and swerved to the left to avoid the vehicles in front of him. As the van swerved to the left, it struck one of the vehicles ahead of it, a 2007 Cadillac STS sedan. That van rolled over and struck the MassDOT pickup that was in the breakdown lane.

The MassDOT employee, a 53-year-old South Weymouth man, was either entering or exiting the truck at the time that it was struck by the van. He suffered serious injuries and was taken by ambulance to Beth Israel-Deaconess Hospital in Boston.

The operator of the van, a 37-year-old Canton man, was extricated from his overturned vehicle and was taken by medical helicopter to Beth Israel-Deaconess Hospital.

The driver of the Cadillac, a 26-year-old Brockton woman, was taken by ambulance to Boston Medical Center after complaining of pain.

No information on the exact nature of their injuries was immediately available.

Multiple lanes on I-95 were shut down for about an hour as crews responded to the crash.

Aerial footage from Sky Ranger showed two vehicles with extensive damage. One of the vehicles had rolled over and was resting on its roof.

The crash remains under investigation by state police. No charges have been filed at this time.
