Whale Beaches Itself on Massachusetts Beach

A beached whale on the Massachusetts coast Monday afternoon has been lifted out to deeper waters thanks to a high tide, officials confirm.

The minke whale was about 150 yards on a mud flap off the shore of Kingston's Grays Beach Road, which meant humans couldn't access it, according to officials from the New England Aquarium.

Believed to be in rough shape, aquarium officials add there's usually some type of sickness about 90 percent of the time in a beaching.

It's not clear if the whale was an adult or adolescent; however, the whale was estimated to be nearly 25 feet long.

Officials at the New England Aquarium said the whale's prognosis is likely poor, and that they would have a better idea during Tuesday's low tide.
