Man Recovering After Being Stabbed by Relative in Willimantic

A man is recovering after being stabbed by a relative Thursday morning.

Police responded to the stabbing on Summit Street around 9:05 a.m. Thursday. There they found 50-year-old Jose Cosme lying on the floor suffering stab wounds to the neck and abdomen.

Cosme was transported to Windham Hospital then air-lifted to Hartford hospital in critical condition. He was taken into surgery and police say he is expected to survive.

Family members of Cosme are shaken but thankful it was’t worse.
“He’s stable and he’s okay,” said Cosme’s daughter Sandra Rios. “Thank God. That’s all we can wish for right now, with the situation at hand.”

Police say a male relative used a small knife on Cosme after the two got into an argument. Rios say the incident is devastating, especially on Thanksgiving.

“There’s no other word. Upset. It’s just emotional.” Rios said.

“We see these types of incidents throughout the year,” said Willimantic Police Corporal Stanley Parizo. “Holidays don’t preclude us from crime,” he added.

Neither police nor the family are saying the relationship between the suspect and Cosme or what the argument was regarding. The suspect is known to police and they are actively searching for him.
