A Winchester employee allegedly stole $1,300 in cash out of a customer's wallet, police said.

On April 18, surveillance videos show a man coming into the Dunkin' Donuts on Main Street and approach the store's counter. The customer paid for his items but left his wallet on the counter in front of the cashier.

The employee, Junite Merrill, 40, of Torrington, was seen taking the customer's wallet as he went to go sit in at a table. Merrill brought the wallet to the rear area of the store and put the cash from the wallet into her pant's pocket, Winchester Police said.

Merrill later gave the empty wallet to her manager and said it had been found in the store. When the manager checked the surveillance tape, he called police.

The victim told police that he had about $1,300 of cash in his wallet, officials said.

Winchester Police obtained an arrest warrant for Merrill and upon searching her belongings said they found a marijuana grinder, a package of rolling papers and a half-ounce of marijuana.

Merill is accused of fourth-degree larceny, possession of less than a half-ounce of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Her bond was set at $5,000 and she is expected to appear in court on May 2.
