Winfrey, Belafonte to Receive Medals From Harvard

Oprah Winfrey and Harry Belafonte are among those scheduled to receive a W.E.B Du Bois Medal from Harvard University.

Oprah Winfrey and Harry Belafonte are among those scheduled to receive a W.E.B Du Bois Medal from Harvard University.

The ceremony is scheduled for Tuesday at the Ivy League school's Sanders Theatre.

The Du Bois Medal is Harvard's highest honor in the field of African and African American Studies. It has been awarded since 2000 in recognition of contributions to African-American culture and the life of the mind.

In addition to Winfrey and Belafonte, this year's medal winners are David Adjaye, Valerie Jarrett, Steve McQueen, Shonda Rimes, Harvey Weinstein and Maya Angelou, posthumously.
