Beautiful, mostly sunny and mild. Highs near 60. (Published Monday, Nov. 7, 2016)

We’re expecting ‘winning weather’ for Election Day for most of New England. It will be a significant turnaround compared to the weather we had today. In Boston the official high temperature was 47 degrees! That’s the coldest daytime high of the season, so far, and it was about 8 degrees below average.

The weather will warm significantly for Election Day. High temperatures will climb into the low 60s — not just for southern New England, but throughout northern New England as well.

Climatologically we see some of our strongest storms in October and November — these storms are fueled by rich tropical moisture and tend to tap into the dynamics that we see during Nor’easters. Having said that, Boston has received more than a trace of rain on Election Day only 5 times in the last 20 years. The most rain was 0.62” in 2007. It’s also interesting that the last 20 Election Days in Boston have been snow free.

The warmest Election Day was 73 degrees — that actually happened last year. The coldest was in 2012 when the morning low temperature dipped to 31 degrees.
