Winter Storm Causes Flooding on Coast

Waves pounded the Scituate, Massachusetts, shoreline during Monday's midday high tide, as the storm brought strong winds and a stinging sleet-snow mix.

For many in this coastal community, the storm wasn't as big of a concern as some seen in past years.

Joe Lanza who lives on Turner Road said, "Woah!" as he was hit by spray from a wave, adding, "Ah it's not too bad I mean it's flooding but I haven't seen any damage it's just the waves are coming over the sea wall and stuff and this wall will be gone in a few hours and we'll do it again for the next tide, but no damage really."

But the wind-whipped waves, caused serious flooding in areas like Lighthouse Road, where not only were the streets filled with water but the basements were filling up as well.

Paula Jacobs who lives on Lighthouse Road said, "The whole house shook, a wave hit the house really bad and it scared me and the lights flickered, I checked the cellar, there's water coming in the cellar, not really bad but it's coming in."

For some, weather like this proved too much to bear, and they moved inland to avoid having to deal with the fear of what each storm will bring.

Former Scituate resident Ted O'Connor said, "It's chaotic and we just came - I just brought my friend down here to show him why we don't live here anymore. It's just the beginning of it, it's crazy, I mean it's just the beginning. We got evacuated out of my house four times and water was flowing up to my ribcage surrounding the house, so I moved to Cohasset."
