Winterfest 2015 Kicks off in Hartford

Sunday marked the first day of Winterfest in Hartford, where holiday spirit was in full swing.

The annual event brings an array of activities to Bushnell Park in Hartford. Visitors can skate at the ice rink, take a photo with Santa in his workshop, or go a few rounds on the carousel. And the best part? The activities are free.

Desiree Rosario of New Britain brought her daughter to see Santa for the first time.

“Love how they do this for everybody; all the kids who really can’t afford it especially. A lot of places ask too much for pictures with Santa,” she said.

Pawel Kaniowski of Cromwell said his family will be dropping by often.

""Since our daughter started skating last year, I guess we are going to be here more often; like every week maybe," he said.

The ice rink will be open daily from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. with the exception of holidays. On Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, and Christmas day the rink is open from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. On New Year’s Eve the rink will be open 12 p.m. to 12 a.m. and on New Year’s Day from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Santa’s Workshop will be open Saturdays and Sundays from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. until Dec. 20. It will also be open Friday, Nov. 27 from 5 p.m to 8 p.m.
