Woman Accused of Hitting Officer With Car Arrested

Police responded to a home in Warwick after receiving a tip that the SUV that hit the officer was there

A woman accused of driving a car that hit a Rhode Island police officer has been arrested on assault charges.

Police responded to a home in Warwick after receiving a tip that the SUV that hit the officer was there.

Thirty-six-year-old Tammy Vicino was arrested and charged with assault with a dangerous weapon.

Police say the incident happened Saturday morning at Dave's Marketplace, a grocery store in Warwick.

The officer, identified as Warwick police Sgt. Thomas Snow, was on a detail and trying to stop the vehicle.

Police say it appears the officer was intentionally hit.

Snow was treated for an injured left arm and released from the hospital.

It's unclear whether Vicino is being represented by an attorney.
